What is a DOS attack?
It is an attempt to make computer resources unavailable to the
intended users. The target can be for example, an online store,
a financial
institution or a service such as email.
Ransom and blackmail There have been some high
profile cases subjected to a DOS attack in the past. Time is
especially of the essence in these cases, as the target may be
losing huge amounts of money for every hour they are off-line.
Usually the DOS attack is allied to a ransom or blackmail
demand, which means that discovering the cause is time critical.

These larger cases would usually be handled by the authorities, but
