World record secured – with a little help from CCL

News of CCL's invaluable contribution to a new world record, with this year's Safer Internet Day now officially ratified for its achievement of the 'Most pledges received for an internet safety campaign in 24 hours.'

Earlier this year CCL supported a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ attempt for Safer Internet Day 2021 – and we’re delighted to say that it has now been officially ratified!

The UK Safer Internet Centre and educational software company 2Simple have recently confirmed that with the help from school children and the education community, they have set an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for Safer Internet Day 2021 - for the Most pledges received for an internet safety campaign in 24 hours.

CCL’s Andrew Sheldon and Joshua Tedd provided the crucial audit method statement, live monitoring of the event, and final analysis and audit of the submitted pledges to identify the number of valid pledges made to count towards the GWR attempt.

Every year the landmark event Safer Internet Day, brings together schools, teachers, parents, carers and organisations across the world, to promote a safer internet and responsible use of online technology and mobile phones. On Tuesday 9th February, 16,372 people pledged to help create an internet we trust - and broke the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ for the Most pledges received for an internet safety campaign in 24 hours.

Commenting on CCL’s involvement, Andrew Sheldon, Director of Innovation, said:

“As the largest digital forensic services provider in the UK, our expert team of forensic analysts, penetration testers and cyber security consultants are acutely aware of the vital role education plays in keeping society safe from online harm.

We process hundreds of computers, mobile phones and digital media devices every week for our law enforcement and commercial clients and whether it's investigating those engaged in cyber-crime and online abuse or responding to live cyber incidents, we see the scale of the problem and witness the damage it does.

So when we got the call for assistance from 2Simple there was not a moment’s hesitation in agreeing to provide the forensic scrutiny trusted by the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ team to prove the new world record had been achieved. We applaud 2Simple for this brilliant initiative to promote safety online!”

Sarah Heath, Head of Marketing, 2Simple, added:

“Safer Internet Day is an important date in the calendar for 2Simple and the education community, with many schools across the UK and globally taking part. This year we decided to help boost interest and engagement in the event by attempting an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title. In order for us to achieve our wish to break a world record we were required to approach a specialist in Digital Forensics.

Both Andrew Sheldon and Joshua Tedd from CCL were incredibly supportive and highly professional in the lead up and throughout the attempt. Andrew in particular worked closely with myself and our Head of Development Jacob Doran: he went above and beyond to ensure all the preparation before the attempt meet GWR’s rules, as well as ensuring the verification during and after the attempt followed their stringent requirements.”
